  • Overview

    The Procurement Specialist is responsible for the execution of sourcing strategies, supplier pricing, supplier development, supplier cost saving initiatives, supplier proficiency projects, and supplier inventory strategies.  This includes initiating purchase orders, troubleshooting issues, monitoring compliance with contractual terms, and assessing overall cost, quality, service & delivery for specific suppliers and categories assigned.   


    Nature & Scope

    Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for the administrative execution of ordering within a diverse supply base.  This position works within guidelines and under general supervision and has no direct reports.


    • Initiates purchase orders for assigned materials based on plant/corporate requirements
    • Consolidates requirements to maximize discounts and/or secure optimal costs, including working cross-functionally to understand future requirements and capture quantity price breaks
    • Expedites shipments as required
    • Identifies new/potential suppliers
    • Quotes materials for new projects as well as savings projects
    • Supplier, and supplier contract, maintenance
    • Activities supporting supplier development & supply base reduction strategies
    • Monitoring current and future PPV
    • Supplier quality reviews & oversight of supplier performance reporting
    • Purchasing & engineering support as assigned
    • Provides administrative support to key stakeholders as required





    • Project management skills with good problem solving abilities, accuracy and attention to detail
    • Negotiation skills
    • Excellent analytical ability to identify and exploit key opportunities
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Previous sourcing experience in an industrial process oriented manufacturing environment
    • Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing is strongly preferred
    • Proven experience in management of purchasing activities
    • High sense of urgency and good attention to detail
    • Multi-plant experience preferred
    • Ability to multi-task and work with plant engineers, plant personnel, and corporate staff
    • Ability to meet aggressive targets
    • BS. degree in operations, supply chain management, business or engineering
    • APICS, CPIM, CPM certification preferred



    • 1-2 years of tactical sourcing, materials, or supply chain management experience at a plant and/or divisional level
    • Direct experience in purchasing and supplier management
    • Category experience preferred in compounds/resins, capital equipment, services, IT, or HR
