  • Overview

    This position provides maintenance support (Mechanical and Electrical) for equipment unavailability issues (breakdowns) and Preventative Maintenance of equipment throughout the facility on a daily basis.  This position will also be required to support various improvement projects and other initiatives throughout the facility. As a fully qualified multi-skilled maintenance technician performing a variety of assigned or self-initiated repair or upgrade work, this position will have minimum supervision, reporting to the Maintenance Manager.  Areas of focus are in mechanical, electrical, electronics, PLC programming, controls, process understanding, and rolling stock. This is a rotating, 12 hour shift position.

    Responsibilities

    • Always a Champion for Safety and General Cable.
    • Use time management skills while  working on breakdowns and projects as well as Preventative Maintenance tasks.
    • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and make required corrections utilizing PLC skills where required.
    • Installs and repairs complex systems with associated controls and interfaces.
    • Develops concepts, researches solutions, organizes action plans, and implements changes/repairs.
    • Secures assistance from necessary resources, i.e., associates, engineers, managers, and contractors.
    • Takes the initiative in becoming familiar with equipment changes in order to perform quick and accurate repairs.
    • Complete shift work orders and PM work orders.
    • Makes improvements to machine PM’s.
    • Uses CMMS (Maintenance Management System DataStram 7i) to assist in establishing procedures for preventative maintenance, documentation of changes, tracking of repair costs, reorder of parts and supplies for all equipment in the plant, and completion of work orders.
    • Assists with the selection of new equipment and the determination of spare parts.
    • Provides assistance and acts as a resource to other maintenance team members and plant team members.
    • Documents equipment drawings and helps maintain equipment history files.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable trade codes, environmental regulations, and safety rules.
    • Keeps work areas, tools, and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
    • Ensures a productive and harmonious work environment by promoting the teamwork concept and performs other duties as assigned.
    • Organizes/schedules with operation leads on priorities and work

    • Develop effective mechanical and electrical control abilities and be able to learn how equipment operation impacts physical and electrical properties of the product.
    • Effectively maintains regular and professional communication with all team members, supervisors, mentors, and engineers.
    • As in all cases, employees must adhere to all plant policies and standards regarding attendance, relief periods, hours of work, appearance, housekeeping, and any other item necessary to maintain efficient operations.

    Qualifications

    • Possess a general knowledge of process equipment throughout the facility.
    • Ability to work with operations group to identify equipment issues and provide high quality issue resolution. 
    • Capable of independent decision making and providing leadership to those learning the equipment and processes.
    • Ability to operate a Forklift and Boom Lift.
    • Basic welding and fabrication skills
    • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet web browswer)
    • 5 years Manufacturing Plant Maintenance experience.
    • Demonstrate Safety as a Core Value. Be an active participating member of safety culture.
    • Basic understanding of AC/DC motors and controls, along with troubleshooting techniques.
    • Maintain the Maintenance areas in a tour ready state at all times.
    • Ability to train new employees in all required skills.
    • Flexibility to work some overtime, weekends, holidays, off shifts and be able to respond to call-outs as needed to fulfill business objectives.
